Parents spend much of the year trying to plan for it…

Lazy summer days, ice pops, trips to the beach and family trips and visits are the best part of this time of year.

We encourage you to have fun  and since we are your lawyers, here are a few summer tips:

1. Make sure that along with passports, identification and contact information,  insure you have access to a list of each person’ s shot records, allergies, any medications and any other important medical history that could make a difference in how a medical emergency is handled.  This goes for adults AND children.  Adults on vacation are not exempt from injury any more than children.
2. As we like to remind all, remember each adult in the family needs a Durable Power of Attorney for legal and financial issues and a Health Care Directive for health care issues.  We even suggest you put our card in your wallet so loved ones know who has your documents if they need to be  retrieved quickly in the event of an emergency. If your son or daughter is turning 18, call us about their documents too as they are now adults and you, Mom and Dad, as much say in their medical treatment as you would like.
3. We want you to have peace of mind this summer so as you are planning your summer vacation, remember these two little steps.  Make them as much a part of your summer plans as airline tickets and hotel reservations and you can leave home with little more to worry about than getting to the airport on time.

We want you to Protect Your Family as you enjoy your summer.  Just think, who would take over making medical or financial decisions for you? Paying bills that need to be paid, keeping your family finances in order? We hate to say it, but it can happen and these documents can make the difference. If you have already had these documents prepared and they are up to date, fantastic – we just want to encourage you to be prepared.
